Men’s Lacrosse Continues Its Winning Ways

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's lacrosse team remained undefeated on the year with an 8-6 victory over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy on Wednesday night.  The Saints improve to 4-0 on the season.

Nico Burns led the Saints with three goals for a hat-trick while Matt Justice, Garrett Nealon, Jimmy Wendell, Chad Niergarth and Connor Kellogg each added one.  Justice paced the Blue and White with a pair of assists with Nealon, Niergart and Wendell each chipping in another.

Defensively, Derek DiGiovanni (4-0) put together his third double-digit save game of the season with 13 saves between the pipes.  Tyler DaSilva led MU with three caused turnovers to go with four ground balls.

Vince Lodato went 10-for-16 in the faceoff 'X' for Marymount and led the Blue and White with six ground balls.

Gwynedd-Mercy (0-2) opened the game with three unanswered goals in the first quarter before the Saints got on the board with Justice's goal at the 2:20 mark in the period.  The Saints would take over the second quarter and outscore the Griffins 3-0 to take a 4-3 lead into haltime courtesy of a Nealon goal in the final seconds of the half.

In the third, GMC notched the only goal of the stanza to knot things up at 4-4 going into the final quarter.  Gwynedd-Mercy would hit the opening goal of the fourth to give the Griffins the lead once again before back-to-back scores from Burns and Kellogg put MU up 6-5 with 8:24 to play.  Another GMC goal 32 seconds later tied it up before Burns put home what would eventually be the game-winner with 5:41 remaining.

Matt Richter led Gwynedd-Mercy with two goals.
