Men’s Lacrosse Returns to Winning Ways

Buena Vista, Va. – Marymount University's men's lacrosse team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a resounding 22-2 victory over Capital Athletic Conference newcomer Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon.  The Saints improve to 6-1 overall but the game does not count in the league standings because Southern Virginia is in its final year of NCAA Division III reclassification.

Jimmy Wendell led the Saints with four goals while Connor Kellogg, Michael Mene and Vince Lodato each added hat-tricks with three goals.  Kellen McCarthy added a pair of goals while Michael Stidham, Ryan Newton, Greg Garner, Nico Burns, Max Johnson, Nick Hohman and Nathaniel Valenti each added one.

Newton and Stidham paced the Blue and White with two assists while Burns, Garner, Dakota Landis, and Mene each added one.

Marymount took control early and never looked back.  The Saints outscored the Knights (0-9) 8-0 in the first quarter and added six unanswered goals in the second before SVU scored its first goal with 53 seconds remaining in the half.

The second half was more of the same as the Blue and White closed things out on an 8-1 spurt.

Marymount dominated on faceoffs, winning 26-of-28 trips to the center X.  Lodato went a perfect 14-for-14, Johnson was 6-for-6 and Valenti went 6-for-8.

Derek DiGiovanni and Colin Durnin split time in goal with DiGiovanni earning his sixth win of the year.

Nash Wilkey led Southern Virginia with two goals.

Marymount returns to action next Saturday as it travels to face CAC foe Frostburg State.
