Men’s Lacrosse Edged in CAC Opener

Frostburg, Md. – Marymount University's men's lacrosse team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference opener 11-10 on the road at Frostburg State on Saturday evening.  The Saints fall to 6-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Matt Justice and Nico Burns both led the Saints with four goals and an assist while Connor Kellogg and Kellen McCarthy each added lone goals.  Kellogg paced the Blue and White with a pair of assists while Garrett Nealon chimed in with another.

Down 11-6 with 12 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Marymount came storming back with a late comeback attempt.  McCarthy scored his goal at the 7:06 mark to start a 4-0 MU run over the next 3:35.  From there, the Saints posted three-straight man-up goals, one from Burns and two from Justice, to make it an 11-10 game with 3:31 remaining. Marymount would manage to get three more shots off down the stretch but all of them were off target including a final attempt at the equalizer with 12 seconds remaining.

Marymount went a perfect 4-for-4 in man-up situations and held the Bobcats (7-2, 1-1 CAC) to just 1-2 on their attempts.

Defensively, Max Rowse caused a pair of turnovers and led the Blue and White with six ground balls.

In goal, Derek DiGiovanni posted his fourth double-digit save performance of the season with 12 saves between the pipes.  He added five ground balls.

Ryan Serio led Frostburg with three goals.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as it closes out non-conference play on the road at Shenandoah.
