Men’s Lacrosse Wins First CAC Game of Season

Dover, Del. – Marymount University's men's lacrosse team defeated Wesley 9-6 in Capital Athletic Conference road action on Wednesday night.  With the win, the Saints earn their first CAC victory of the season, improve to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in league play.

The Saints' eighth win of the season is also the most in a campaign since 2001.

Chad Niergarth and Jimmy Wendell both led the Saints with two goals while Connor Kellogg, Matt Justice, Garrett Nealon, Nico Burns and Tyler DaSilva all added lone goals.  Kellogg, Lance Bernecker and Kellen McCarthy all logged assists as well.

Both teams kept pace with each other the entire first half with neither team leading by any more than one goal the entire frame.  In the second half, the Saints outscored Wesley (5-4, 0-3 CAC) 4-1 and shutout their hosts in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Defensively, Derek DiGiovanni hauled in 19 saves between the pipes for his eighth win of the season.  He allowed just six goals on the night and held the Wolverines scoreless the final 23:28 of the game.  Austin Miller was credited with three caused turnovers while DaSilva and Chris Madison collected five ground balls each.

Six different Wesley players scored a lone goal in the loss.
