Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's lacrosse team fell to its third nationally-ranked opponent of the season with a 16-6 setback against visiting Capital Athletic Conference rival #14 Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon. The Saints close out the regular season 8-7 overall and 1-6 in league play.
Trading goals back-and-forth to start the first quarter, Mary Washington took a 3-2 lead into the second period behind a goal with just two seconds remaining on the clock. The Eagles then used that momentum to outscore Marymount 3-0 in the second, including a pair of man-up goals, to take a 6-2 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Mary Washington scored the first four goals of the half to lead 10-2 before Marymount responded goal-for-goal the rest of the frame as UMW took a 12-4 lead into the final period. In the fourth, the Eagles outscored MU 4-2 to seal the victory.
In goal, all four Marymount netminders saw action between the pipes. Derek DiGiovanni led the way with nine saves.
Luke Dick led Mary Washington with four goals.
With its 8-7 overall record, Marymount is eligible for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament. The Saints will find out if they are selected following the conclusion of the CAC Tournament in May.
