Bristol, Tenn. – Marymount University's men's volleyball team dropped pair of matches on the road Saturday afternoon. The Saints opened the day with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-16) loss to host Division II King before falling 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 25-18) to NAIA foe Emmanuel (Ga.).
In the opener against King (3-3), Bryce Ernsberger led the Saints (0-3) with nine kills to go with 10 digs and three blocks, both match-highs. Matt Malloy added five kills, Chris Lionette chipped in four and Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz chimed in with three. Malloy also recorded the only two service aces in the game.
Bronson Summers-Torres paced the Marymount offense with 16 assists.
Eddie Moushikhian led the Tornado with 14 kills.
Against Emmanuel, Ksiazkiewicz led Marymount with 11 kills and eight digs. Ernsberger added nine kills, Malloy had eight and Lionette chipped in seven.
Summers-Torres recorded another 34 assists for the Blue and White.
Marymount's third set win over Emmanuel was the first in program history. The Saints opened the frame with a 5-2 advantage before EC knotted things up at 5-5 an eventually taking a 14-11 lead. Marymount responded with a 9-2 run to lead 20-16 but the Lions answered back to tie things up at 22-22 and again at 23-23. With the Saints holding set point up 24-23, Malloy sealed the program's first set win with a kill assisted by Summers-Torres.
Ryck Webb led the Lions with 14 kills and 11 digs for a double-double.
Marymount returns to action next weekend at the Continental Volleyball Conference Crossover in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Saints face host Mt. St. Joseph and Dominican (Ill.) on Saturday before battling Fontbonne on Sunday.
