Towson, Md. – Marymount University's women's lacrosse team defeated former Capital Athletic Conference foe Goucher 16-14 in overtime on Tuesday night. The Saints improve to 7-4 overall for their most wins since the 2008 season.
Taylor Johnson led the Saints with five goals while Molly Maher added three for a hat-trick. Stephanie Keane, Stephanie Flood and Megan McGuirk each added a pair while Shaina Crowhurst and Chelsea Ritter both chipped in another.
McGuirk posted two assists with Keane, Crowhurst, Jacki Belker and Rachel Duff all adding one as well.
Marymount jumped on the board first with back-to-back goals before taking a 4-2 lead with 16:50 remaining in the first. Goucher (6-6) would tie things up at 4-4 before both teams traded goals the rest of the half with MU taking a 7-6 lead going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Gophers scored four unanswered goals en route to a 13-9 lead with just under 15 minutes to play. Marymount battled back from there, going on a 4-0 run over the next five minutes to knot things up at 13-13.
Goucher looked to have the final word with a goal with 58 seconds remaining but a late Marymount surge culminated with a free position goal by Maher with seven seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
In overtime, the Saints outscored their hosts 2-0 in the period with goals from Johnson and Flood 15 seconds apart in the first 3:00 OT frame.
Marymount won the draw control battle 23-11 over Goucher with Maher leading the way with eight. Ritter added six and Flood had five for MU.
Cecelia Pasquale led the Saints with five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Maher and Ritter both added three caused turnovers as well.
Kiki Niebuhr (7-4) earned eight saves in the win for the Blue and White.
Hannah Khun led Goucher with six goals.
