Women’s Lacrosse Sets Program Record for Consecutive Wins to Open Season

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Greensboro 15-8 on Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated on the season. The Saints improve to 4-0 on the year, setting the program record for consecutive wins to start a campaign.

Mary Ellen Whitlock, Stephanie Keane and Taylor Johnson all notched hat-tricks in the win for the Saints. Molly Maher and Catherine Powell added a pair of goals while Stephanie Flood and Chelsea Ritter chipped in one apiece.

Maher and Jacki Belker both notched two assists on the day with Rebecca Durkin adding another.

Marymount looked to have the game in hand early after jumping to a quick 7-1 lead through the first 13 minute of play. The Pride (0-6) then began to mount a comeback, closing out the first half on a 4-1 run to make it an 8-5 game going into the break.

Coming out of halftime, Greensboro posted the first two goals of the frame to pull within one at 8-7. The Saints clamped down from there, holding GC to just one goal in the final 26 minutes of action while outscoring their guests 7-1 down the stretch.

In goal, Kiki Niebuhr (4-0) earned her fourth win of the season while collecting 10 saves between the pipes.

Maher led the Saints with three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Flood and Whitfield added three draw controls as well while Flood paced the Blue and White with three ground balls.

Brittany Ziobro led Greensboro with three goals.
