York, Pa. – Marymount University junior goalkeeper Kiki Niebuhr was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Niebuhr led the undefeated Saints to their best start in program history at 4-0 with three victories between the pipes on the week.
Opening the week with a neutral site victory over Birmingham-Southern, Niebuhr collected seven saves as the Saints earned the 16-8 victory. She added three ground balls and a caused turnover in the win.
Closing out Marymount's Spring Break trip with a win at Sewanee, Niebuhr hauled in a week-best 16 saves in a 13-9 MU victory. The Saints 17 goals allowed over their first three games was the second fewest in program history, missing the mark by one.
Just missing out on one record, the Saints set another with their fourth consecutive win to start the season with a 15-8 victory over Greensboro. Niebuhr posted another double-digit save performance with 10 to earn her fourth complete game win of the season.
Marymount returns to action on Thursday as it hosts fellow undefeated squad Randolph-Macon to Long Bridge Park. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.marymount.edu/athletics/wLacrosse and selecting the "live stats" link.
