Women’s Lacrosse Returns to Winning Ways

Buena Vista, Va. – Marymount University's women's lacrosse team defeated Capital Athletic Conference newcomer Southern Virginia 18-3 on Saturday afternoon.  The Saints improve to 6-4 overall but the game does not count in the league standings because Southern Virginia is in its final year of NCAA Division III reclassification.

Taylor Johnson and Catina Boster both led the Saints with four goals each while Megan McGuirk and Stephanie Keane added a pair.  Catherine Powell, Emily Beck, Natalie Tinkham, Jacki Belker, Chelsea Ritter and Jarrett Mille each scored lone goals in the win.

McGuirk and Powell each tallied a pair of assists with Beck, Belker, Johnson, Tinkham and Molly Maher adding all another.

Marymount dominated the opening draws, winning 16 of 23 draw controls on the day.  Tinkham led the way with five, Powell added three while Johnson and McGuirk earned two each.

Meghan Higgins, Johnson and Belker all paced MU with a pair of ground balls.

Tylar Abrams and Kiki Niebuhr split halves between the pipes with Abrams earning the win behind a three save performance in the first 30 minutes.  Niebuhr held things down in the second half, allowing just one goal while pulling in two saves in the final 30 minutes of play.

Zoe Bradshaw led Southern Virginia (1-9) with two goals.

Marymount returns to action on Sunday as it closes out its non-conference slate on the road at Virginia Wesleyan.
