ARLINGTON, Va. -- After earning Atlantic East Conference weekly honors, Michael Miller of the Marymount University men's tennis team, and Grace Needham, of the women's soccer team, have been named the Saints of the Week.
Miller earned the first weekly award of his career from the conference in a pair of strong showings on the court last week. The freshman led the Saints at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships hosted by the University of Mary Washington over the weekend. Miller picked up a pair of wins in the championship bracket with a singles victory and a doubles win with teammate Dorian Guiot. Earlier in the week, Miller paced MU in a narrow defeat to Stevenson as he earned a win at No. 2 singles and added another doubles victory to his ledger.
Needham's steady presence in net guided the Saints to a victory in their first Atlantic East tilt of the season against Centenary University. The Newton, Pennsylvania, native amassed an astounding 13 saves in 90 minutes of action to record a clean sheet in the 2-0 win. Nine of Needham's saves came in the second half to seal the game. The freshman's total marked a new season-high and brought her season-long mark to 36, which ranks top-five in the conference.
Miller and the Saints return to action on Friday, October 8, when they battle Mary Baldwin University at 2:00 p.m. Needham and the women's soccer team are back on the pitch this afternoon against local rival Catholic University at 4:30 p.m.
