LANCASTER, Pa. -- With the start of the 2022 baseball season around the corner, the Marymount University baseball team was selected second in the Atlantic East Conference Preseason Poll.
The reigning conference champion Saints earned 31 points in the poll with three first-place votes, the highest among all seven conference members. Cabrini University claimed the top spot with 32 points and two first-place votes. Neumann University claimed the final two first-place votes and was selected third with 26 points. Last season's runner-up, Immaculata University, was picked to finish fourth with 25 points.
The Saints are aiming to win the Atlantic East title in back-to-back seasons this spring after 2021's historic triumph. The Blue and White reached their first-ever NCAA Division III Regional a season ago and look set to build upon that success. Alex Lemery, the 2021 Atlantic East Co-Player of the Year and ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team honoree, returns to headline the Saints lineup this spring. On the mound, Drew Mead returns after an Atlantic East All-Conference Second Team nod last season.
Marymount gets its season underway on Saturday, February 19, with a home twinbill against Mary Baldwin University. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Nats Youth Academy. Conference play begins for the Saints on Friday, April 1, in a rematch of the AEC championship game against Immaculata on the road at 3:00 p.m.
