MU Erases Six-Run Deficit But Can't Avoid Sweep

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Marymount University baseball team erased an early 6-0 deficit but couldn't avoid a series sweep in a 14-10 loss at Immaculata.

Ryan Maylie was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored. Ryo Fabre and Robby Cable each went 2-for-4, with Cable knocking in four runners and Fabre crossing the plate twice.

After Immaculata put up six runs in the first, MU answered in the top of the second. Maylie knocked in Bryce Smith to get the Saints on the board and, following a bases loaded walk, Alex Lemery doubled in two more to make it 6-4.

Ryan Lee made it 6-6 with a two-RBI single, and Marymount took an 8-6 lead with a two-RBI base hit from Cable in the top of the third.

The Mighty Macs battled back to grab an 11-8 advantage that the Saints nearly battled back from again.

Another RBI hit from Cable in the seventh, and a Maylie single in the eighth, made it 11-10. Marymount had the tying run in scoring position but Immaculata got out of the inning on a flyout to deep center field.

A two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth gave the Mighty Macs some breathing room in an eventual 14-10 decision.

Marymount, who is receiving votes in the national polls, is 17-6 on the season but 0-3 in Atlantic East play after dropping all three in its initial league weekend. The Saints will look to get back on track next weekend vs. Cabrini (home Friday, road doubleheader on Saturday).
