Saints Drop Series Opener with Gwynedd-Mercy

Saints Drop Series Opener with Gwynedd-Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - The Marymount baseball team dropped the opening game of their three-game set with Gwynedd Mercy in a tightly contested duel on the mound.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 20-11 on the year, 3-7 in AEC play.

  • Ryan Maylie knocked two hits in as many at-bats, driving in an RBI and scoring a run.
  • Bryce Smith and and Ryan Lee each knocked a pair of hits, with Lee scoring a run on the day.
  • Jimmy Baker knocked in an RBI in the contest.

How It Happened

  • The Saints put themselves on the board first in the game, pushing across a run in the top of the second. Bryce Smith led off the inning with a single, and with next two Saints going down in order, they needed to spark a rally. After a Maylie single, Baker punched a single to left to score Smith easily and give Marymount the early 1-0 lead.
  • With one away in the top of the sixth, Lee drove a double down the right field line. Maylie quickly took advantage of a pitch over the plate and knocked Lee in with a single through the right side.
  • Stephen Gerade fell to 2-1 on the year, but pitched well, throwing 7.1 strong innings and striking out two.

What's Next

  • The Saints will be at Nats Youth Park tomorrow, Apr. 23 to wrap up the season series with Gwynedd Mercy. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
