Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's lacrosse team picked up another non-conference victory with a 9-8 win over Colorado College on Sunday afternoon. The Saints improve to 5-2 on the season and are an impressive 4-1 at home at the friendly confines of Long Bridge Park.
Connor Kellogg and Andrew Fournier led the Saints with three goals each. Fournier's hat-trick was the first of his career while Kellogg's is his fourth of the season.
Jack Burke, Lance Bernecker and George Pugh each added goals for the Blue and White while Ian Gordon tallied three assists with Garrett Nealon chipping in two and Vince Lodato one.
Colorado College (5-4) came out of the gates blazing, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter to force a Marymount timeout at the 3:22 mark. The Saints settled down from there, closing out the frame with goals from Burke and Bernecker to pull within 4-2.
Marymount opened up the second with a man-up goal from Pugh before adding two more from Fournier for five unanswered goals to take a 5-4 lead. The Tigers wrapped up the half with two goals of their own to lead 6-5 going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Kellogg tied things up at the 12:32 mark before CC responded 60 seconds later to retake the lead up 7-6. Back-to-back goals from Kellogg, one to close the third and another to open the fourth, lifted the Saints back on top before Fourier completed the hat-trick with 7:53 remaining to give MU a 9-7 lead. The Tigers added one last goal with just under four minutes remaining but couldn't get another shot off past the Saints swarming defense the rest of the game.
Michael Bitonti led the Saints with three caused turnovers, including a key interception on one of Colorado College's final possessions at the 2:45 mark.
Ian Gordon paced Marymount with five ground balls and went 10-for-17 on faceoffs. Kellogg, Bitonti and goalkeeper Derek DiGiovanni each added four while Tyler DaSilva collected three.
In goal, DiGiovanni (5-2) picked up his fifth win of the year after stopping 14 Colorado College shots.
Jack Kreitler led Colorado College with two goals.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it travels to face perennial Capital Athletic Conference champion and seventh-ranked Salisbury on the road.
