ARLINGTON, Va. - The Marymount University men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference decision to Saint Vincent College Saturday afternoon in its home opener, 10-6.
The Bearcats found the back of net first in the game, scoring six minutes in. However, before the end of the first quarter, the Saints tacked on their first to carry a 1-1 draw into the second period. Junior Clark Akers scored the opening goal for MU, going unassisted for his first of an eventual hat trick of the afternoon.
The Saints opened the second quarter with two-straight goals to build a 3-1 advantage on back-to-back assists from freshman Chris Clark. At the 11:35 mark, Clark found sophomore Hunter Ralston, then again less than a minute later on a man-up to sophomore Troy Tangolics.
After the Bearcats halted the run with a goal of their own, Tangolics went unassisted for his second finish of the day to push the lead back out to two, 4-2.
Through the remainder of the second quarter and into the third, St. Vincent took over the advantage with three-consecutive goals, but Akers drew it back even at 5-5 with his second goal at 10:48 in the third.
The rest of the third and much of the fourth was controlled by the Bearcats with five-straight goals to take the lead for good. Akers finished off his hat trick in the final five seconds of the game, going unassisted for the second time.
