IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Marymount University men's soccer team opened up Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania, dropping a 3-0 decision to Immaculata University.
Although the Saints out shot the Mighty Macs in the contest, 14-10, including a 7-6 difference in shots on target, it was Immaculata that took the early lead and momentum with its first goal in the ninth minute.
Before the 20th minute, Marymount had two opportunities on target, both by junior Levis Lopez, find the gloves of Mighty Mac goalkeeper Mikey Kalpokas. The constant offensive pressure by the Saints had them getting four total off on goal in the first half, but none found the back of the net.
By the half, the Macs added one more goal to take a 2-0 advantage into the break.
The second half played similar as MU doubled the amount of shot attempts over the Macs, 6-3, but the Saints couldn't get a ball past Kalpokas.
Early in the half, Immaculata put the final goal of the game in to cap off the 3-0 conference opener.
Of the six shots on target for the Saints, Lopez and freshman Carlos Varona each had two as they combined for seven shots total.
The Saints head back home for another league matchup on Saturday, October 12, hosting Gwynedd Mercy University at Long Bridge Park. First touch is set for 12 p.m.
