Men’s Soccer Stymied by Hood, 1-0

Men’s Soccer Stymied by Hood, 1-0

ARLINGTON, Va. – Despite consistent pressure throughout the second half, Marymount men's soccer could not find an equalizer on Monday night against Hood and dropped its third straight match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After drawing one of five first-half corner kicks, Hood jumped ahead in the fourth minute thanks to a header from Luke Hammer. Gibby Fuentes-Reyes recorded the assist for the Blazers.
  • Marymount nearly equalized less than two minutes later but Brandon Loarte's shot went wide and Jonathan Guevara knocked one off the post.
  • The game picked up in physicality to start the second half as five yellow cards were issued in the frame.
  • In the 61st minute, back-to-back shots from Derek Rivera and Fredy Vargas were stopped by Hood's defense.
  • The Saints had three shots in 15 seconds in the 84th minute but the effort proved futile as Marymount remained scoreless.
  • Marymount held a 20-5 advantage in shots taken.

HEAR FROM COACH KALIN

  • "We literally did everything right tonight and deserved a result. But our sport is unforgiving and harsh sometimes. I can't emphasize enough that this result doesn't hurt us. Soccer makes you ask the question 'why?' a lot. We will get that answer in conference play if we stay focused on the positive. We showed we are a very good team and our time is ahead of us. I truly believe that."

UP NEXT

  • Marymount closes out a stretch of five home games in six matches with one more home game on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 PM against York.
