Men’s Soccer Tops Gallaudet; Torres Ties All-Time Goals Record

WASHINGTONLeonardo Torres scored his first career hat trick to move into a tie for Marymount's all-time goals record as the Saints overwhelmed Gallaudet on Wednesday night, 10-0.

NOTABLE

  • Torres also added two assists on Wednesday. For this season, Torres now boasts 10 goals and four assists.
  • Here's a look at where Torres stands on Marymount's all-time scoring records:
    • 26 career goals (tied with Justin Kessler '06 for first all-time)
    • 63 career points (second all-time, five points from becoming all-time leader)
    • 11 career assists (tied with Omar Canty '01 for sixth all-time)
  • The hat trick was the first such performance for Marymount since Ridwaan Robinson scored three times against Valley Forge on Sept. 25, 2019.
  • Also making a move in Marymount's record book was Derek Rivera. He recorded his sixth assist of the season and now has 15 helpers in his career, which is tied with Kessler for second all-time. Two more assists will make Rivera the all-time leader in career assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Marymount scored five goals in the first half and five goals in the second half.
  • Both teams had eight corner kicks but Marymount held a 24-13 advantage in shots taken.
  • Matthew Correa found the back of the net twice.
  • Brian Cruz had five saves while Nicolas Varona snagged two to help Marymount pick up a clean sheet.

HEAR FROM COACH KALIN

  • "It was a great night to celebrate Leo's amazing accomplishment of tying the all-time goals record. His achievement is a reflection of and a result of a truly great group of athletes who have taken Marymount to a new level. On the same night, we also had three more guys who scored their first career goals in Omar, Rodrigo, and CQ. We can celebrate tonight and hope the positivity carrier into Marywood this weekend."

UP NEXT

  • Marymount returns to Long Bridge Park for homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 PM against Marywood.
  • The Saints will be home for three of their final four games this regular season.
