Banegas Selected as AEC Defensive Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – For the first time in his career, freshman Bayron Banegas has been selected as the Atlantic East Defensive Player of the Week after the conference office announced the weekly awards on Monday.

Banegas led the Saints to a 2-0 week with impressive shutout wins over Cabrini and Neumann, who currently sit at second and third in the conference standings.

The freshman keeper had eight saves on the week and now leads the conference with a 0.715 goals against average on the season. The current MU record for single-season GAA is 1.22 set in 1990 by Mike McMoil. Additionally, Banegas has four shutouts, which leads the conference.

Marymount heads into the final week of the season with a chance to clinch the top seed in the Atlantic East Tournament with a win over Immaculata on Wednesday night at Long Bridge Park.
