Men's Cross Country Takes Fifth In UMW Opener

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Marymount University men's cross country team opened the 2019 slate under new Head Coach Jon Morrow with a fifth place finish at the UMW Opener, hosted by the University of Mary Washington.

The Saints scored 112 points in the 5K, led by a sophomores Brendan O'Brien and Matthew Thies

O'Brien clocked a time of 19:44.41 for 46th place, while Thies came in close behind with a time of 20:07.58 for 50th place.

Junior Paolo Rivas came in four spots back of Thies with a time of 21:49.53, while senior Kevin Umanzor earned the 55th spot with a time of 22:14.74. 

Rounding out the squad in his first collegiate race was freshman Vincent Cassano, clocking a time of 23:55.90 for 57th. 

The Saints return to the gravel next weekend, Saturday, September 7, traveling to Steven University for the Shannon Henretty Invitational.
