NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Marymount University men's cross country team battled to a fifth-place team finish on Saturday afternoon at the Christopher Newport University Invitational, its final race before postseason competition.
With a team average of 30:56.12 on the 8K course, the Saints totaled 119 points. Leading the way in his second race of his collegiate career was freshman Meshack Bett, coming across for a fifth-place finish with a time of 27:04.12.
Sophomore Brendan O'Brien was the next Saint to cross the finish line, clocking a time of 29:44.31 for 24th. His classmate Matthew Thies took 40th with a time of 31:58.81, while freshman Kevin Umanzor and junior Paolo Rivas rounded out the scoring with times of 32:26.16 and 33:27.19, respectively, for 43rd and 47th.
Freshman Gustavo Barrera wrapped up the Saint squad in 52nd with a time of 36:51.95.
The Saints will now prepare for the second running of the Atlantic East Conference Championship on Saturday, November 2 in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
