Saints Compete in NCAA South Regional Preview

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Marymount cross country took the trip down to Newport News Friday evening, competing in the NCAA South Regional Preview. The team brought some strong showings back to campus, with steady improvements across the board. 

Team Finishes

  • The women put together a strong finish on the day, finishing 13th with a scoring of 367 (47-67-82-84-87(90)(93)).
  • The men rounded out the day with a 18th place finish in the large field with a score of 508  (47-67-82-84-87(90)(93)).

Individual Finishes

  • Avery Finnegan put forth another strong display in her first-year campaign, having the best finish across both the men's and women's program. She finished 57th out of the 165-person field with a time of 25:31.4.
  • Ziyan Qutub had the next finish for the women on the day, coming across in the 100th spot. She finished with a time of 27:58.7 in the 6k event. 
  • Louis Aquilina finished atop for the men, notching a 121st place finish with a time of 30:33.4.
  • Senior Matt Zirkle had the next finish for the Saints, collecting a time of 34:42.7. Cole Valente was right behind Zirkle, finishing in the next spot with a time of 35:05.1.
  • Ariana Grant finished with a time of 29:29.4 on the women's side, with Madeleine Pare not far behind with a finishing time of 29:46.0.
  • Gabrielle Wiersky notched a time of 30:25.5 and Deziree Conklin-Boone, in her first race of the season, finished with a time of 31:25.9.
  • Zafit Olea and Gustavo Barrera rounded out the finishes for the men in the 6k event, showing strong ahead of the rest of the season. 
  • Kristin Johnson had a strong showing with a time of 30:40.8. Viviana Perez rounded out the field for the Saints. 

What's Next

  • The Saints head back to Winchester, Va. for the Hornet Harrier Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 24.
