Women's Lacrosse Downs Lycoming in Season Opener

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University women's lacrosse team started the 2022 campaign off on the right foot on Saturday afternoon with a 17-6 win over Lycoming College. 

The Saints struck early and often against the Warriors at Long Bridge Park, with three goals over the first three minutes of play. Emily Peters, Taylor Young, and Kaleigh Dunham were responsible for the early barrage. 

While Lycoming eventually knotted the score at the end of the first quarter, the Saints dominated the second period. MU outscored Lycoming, 4-1, in the frame to take an 8-5 lead at halftime. Dunham continued her scoring antics with a trio of markers during the period.

With a three-goal lead, the Saints cruised throughout the third and fourth quarters. MU found the back of the net five times during the third frame and tacked on four goals in the final quarter to close out the tilt. The Saints ended the contest with a whopping 39-17 advantage in shots.

Dunham, Peters, and Young all finished with four goals, while Dunham added an assist for a team-high five points. Peters also added a team-best four caused turnovers. Rookie Taylor Chepren scored the first goal of her collegiate career and finished with a trio of assists. Senior Sarah Agrillo chipped in two goals and an assist to round out the Saints multi-point scorers. In goal, senior Mariel Russ secured the victory with six saves in 60 minutes of action. 

The Saints remain at home for their next contest on Wednesday, February 23, when they host Susquehanna University at 6:00 p.m.
