Women's Volleyball Opens Home Slate with Two Wins

ARLINGTON, Va. – In its first two matches of the season at Converse Family Field House, Marymount women's volleyball picked up two strong wins over Averett and York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. The Saints improved to 5-5 through the first three weeks of action. 

NOTABLE

  • Myia Jeter hit .368 with eight kills and added a team-high five blocks in the win over Averett. 
  • Elissa Munsterman added another double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs against the Cougars. 
  • In the game against York, Maya Harris led the Saints by hitting .500 with 10 kills. 
  • Alexis Franklin led the Saints with 21 assists and 12 digs against the Spartans. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After taking the first set against Averett pretty handily (25-18), the Cougars responded by taking the second set by a score of 25-16. 
  • Marymount responded by taking a 4-0 lead in the third set and stretched its advantage to as many as 11 points before finishing with a score of 25-19.
  • The Saints closed out the first match of the day with a resounding 25-16 fourth-set win. 
  • Against York, who entered the day with a 6-1 record, the Saints jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first set which forced the Spartans into an early timeout. Marymount closed out by winning 25-18. 
  • MU took set number two, 25-20. 
  • In the third set, Marymount looked poised to pull away and clinch the win with a 23-19 advantage. But York fought all the way back and held two set points before the Saints scored the final three points to take the set, 29-27.
