Saints Push Win Streak to Six With Sweeps of Gwynedd Mercy and Haverford

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. -- The Marymount University women's violleyball tem pushed its win streak to six consecutive matches on Saturday afternoon with a pair of wins over Gwynedd Mercy University and Haverford. College.

Match One

The Saints opened the day with an Atlantic East Conference tilt against Gwynedd Mercy. MU was too much too handle for the Griffins as a .333 team attack percentage allowed the Saints to move to a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

While Marymount surged offensively, Gwynedd sputtered to a .080 hitting percentage. The Saints defense played a major role, as they posted 53 digs and match best seven blocks. Marymount flew past the Griffins in the first two sets as the Saints floored 17 kills with a .314 attack percentage in the first set and 16 kills with a match-high .483 attack percentage in the second.

With the two-sets-to-none lead in hand, the Saints cruised to a 25-16 win in the final set to close out the match. Elissa Munsterman led MU's barrage with 10 kills and a .421 attack percentage. Alexis Franklin added eight kills, while Caylee Shelton finished with seven kills and seven digs. Sydney Sands finished with a match-high 26 assists and Natalie Bialecki chipped in 12 helpers.

Match Two

With a conference victory in hand, the Saints turned their attention to Haverford College in their second match of the day. The Fords battled the Saints in each set, but Marymount stood tall and picked up a well-earned 3-0 victory to close out the weekend.

The Blue and White fared slightly better than Haverford offensively with a .248 attack percentage, while the Fords hit at a .190 clip. The third set was a back-and-forth affair as Haverford fought to extend the match. MU pummeled the opposition to open the frame and raced out to a 10-3 lead.

Haverford eventually pulled within one at 13-14, but the Saints responded with two consecutive points. MU used a block from Myia Jeter and Munsterman to earn a match point chance. Haverford fired off three-straight points, but the Saints held steady for the win.

Munsterman paved the way once again for the Saints with 17 kills, five digs, and two blocks. Kaitlyn Doyle finished with double-digit digs as well with 11 and a .409 attack percentage. Sands posted her fifth match of the season with 30 or more assists with a match-high 35. Sarah Pham led the team defensively with 15 digs.

Marymount returns home for its next contest on Wednesday, October 20, when it welcomes Bridgewater College to Converse Family Fieldhouse. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
